Air France-KLM to add just 0.3% capacity this summer

March 11, 2013 by feryomaha

Air France-KLM will cut capacity on its underperforming medium-haul network this summer a further 5.3%, while boosting long-haul capacity 2%. The strict capacity control, representing 0.3% growth overall, follows a sharp downturn in Air France-KLM’s full-year profitability. “Following the early adoption of certain measures during winter 2012-2013, all the actions decided as part of Transform 2015 will be implemented in summer 2013,” the company said in a statement. Air France-KLM said its medium-haul network reorganization is “still underway,” leading to […]

Air France to review regional bases

March 6, 2013 by feryomaha

Air France will review its regional hubs this fall, following a lackluster 2012 performance from its domestic and medium-haul operations. In October 2011, Air France announced a “commercial offensive” from the French provinces aimed at challenging its low-cost rivals. This initiative involved the creation of four new regional hubs at Bordeaux, Marseille, Nice and Toulouse. However, a number of routes and frequencies have already been cut, prompting speculation about possible base closures. “Medium-haul losses were not reduced in 2012, in […]

Air Berlin-Air France-KLM codeshare by April

March 3, 2013 by feryomaha

The planned codeshare agreement between oneworld member Air Berlin and Air France-KLM, a SkyTeam member, should be in place by April. Air Berlin CCO Paul Gregorowitsch told ATW on the sidelines of the Austrian Aviation Association conference at Linz Airport that the process has been delayed as the two alliances work out partnership details. “But we have the commitment from Air France and KLM board of managers as well as from Etihad. I hope from April we can implement it,” […]

Air France-KLM to revamp its structure

February 27, 2013 by feryomaha

Air France-KLM chairman and CEO Jean-Cyril Spinetta has warned that the company needs to change its structure to preserve its status as a major world airline. “Today our industry is dominated by 15-20 major airlines. Air France is a part of this, but if we want to remain in the top 10-15 we need to remain strong and effective,” Spinetta said during the Air France-KLM results conference. Under the revamp, Air France-KLM’s functions will be centralized on three business areas: […]

Air France to Finalize A350 Order Later in 2013

February 25, 2013 by feryomaha

Air France has pushed back the timeframe for finalizing its commitment for 25 firm Airbus A350 XWBs until later in 2013. It had previously indicated the order would be finalized by the end of the first quarter. In September 2011, Air France signed a tentative agreement for 50 aircraft, evenly divided between the Airbus A350 and Boeing 787. It has since finalized its Boeing order, but the A350s have not yet been confirmed. “I believe we will sign this in […]

Air France-KLM is in talks with “two to three” potential bidders for Irish regional CityJet and will decide on the divestment by July. “For sure by July we will take the decision on whether to sell CityJet or whether to keep it within the group after a restructuring program,” Air France-KLM Group EVP finance Philippe Calavia said. “We will probably have a decision within two months, maybe before. Air France-KLM Group reported a full year net loss of €1.2 billion ($1.9 billion), widening from a €809 million loss in the year-ago period. The airline said the result was due to exceptional items, including a €471 million restructuring provision. “We have reduced our losses and revenues have held up well. We are beginning to see the initial results of our Transform 2015 restructuring plan,” said Air France-KLM Group executive VP finance Philippe Calavia, speaking at the group’s annual results […]
