Core profit at Airbus parent EADS rose sharply in the first quarter after the passenger jet maker raised output of its most profitable planes, eclipsing weakness at EADS’s helicopter division. Airbus has unveiled the first A350-900 flight-test prototype in its full paint scheme, as the airframer makes final preparations for the twinjet’s maiden sortie. Air China Asia’s biggest carrier by market value, plans to add 100 Airbus SAS planes to help meet rising travel demand. China Aviation Supplies has committed to 42 Airbus A320-family narrowbodies and 18 A330 twinjets under a general-terms agreement. IAG to order 18 A350s for British Airways

International Airlines Group has signed an memorandum of understanding to order 18 Airbus A350-1000 aircraft and take an additional 18 options on the type as it revamps its long-haul fleet. The aircraft are to be operated by British Airways and, in combination with 42 Boeing 787s on firm order, will replace 30 Boeing 747s between 2017 and 2023. Qatar to get first A380 in early 2014

Qatar Airways’ first Airbus A380 is to be delivered in early 2014, the airframer has confirmed. Painting of the vertical tail section for the Doha-based airline’s first superjumbo has been completed, and assembly of the aircraft will begin “this month”.
